Summer Program in Barcelona, 2014

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese offers a Global Seminar in Barcelona, Spain, from early June to early July. Barcelona: Literature and Culture is a five-week Global Seminar that runs from Saturday, May 31st, 2014 through Friday, July 4, 2014.  Students will earn 6 credits for the 5-week course.  The Global Seminar consists of SPAN 3270 “Barcelona: Understanding Local and Immigrant Cultures” (which fulfills the Human Diversity core requirement) and SPAN 3230 “Discovering Barcelona.”  Students will live and attend class in downtown Barcelona, a cosmopolitan city that is one of the oldest in Europe and the capital of one of the most vibrant and modern regions in Spain, Catalonia.  They will also participate in excursions to world-class museums (Fundació Miró, Museu Picasso), concert halls (Palau de la Música), and buildings (Gaudí’s Sagrada Família and La Pedrera), and they will experience the city’s remarkable street culture and musical offerings (Sónar Festival of Advanced Music). The program also includes four excursions to some of the most remarkable locales in Catalonia: Tarragona, Girona, Montserrat, and Figueres, home of the world-famous Dalí Museum.
