Pedagogy and Methods of Teaching

Our department offers two courses on pedagogy and teaching methods, one for undergraduate students enrolled in the Teaching Certificate program (SPAN 4650, Methods of Teaching Spanish) and the other for new graduate students assigned to teach Language classes in our department (SPAN 4980, Pedagogy and Methods of Teaching).

Anne Becher (M.A. in Hispanic Linguistics, CU-Boulder, 1992) is our Department's specialist in this area. She works closely with incoming graduate student instructors during the week-long orientation preceding Fall semester and as the instructor for SPAN 4980, Pedagogy and Methods of Teaching, a 5-week, 1-credit course for new graduate student instructors. She also coordinates SPAN 1010: Beginning Spanish, which is a course that most graduate students teach their first year in our program.

Anne also serves as the Advisor for the Secondary Spanish Teaching Certificate program. Each spring she teaches SPAN 4650, Methods of Teaching Spanish, a requirement for those students working toward their Teaching Certificate, and she supervisors candidates in their final semester of the program as they student teach at area secondary schools.

Anne has been teaching beginning, intermediate and advanced courses in our department since 1996.
